Wolfcraft 5027000 Drill Stand, I hope it’s not damaging to the stand but it’s useless if there’s play in the part that holds the

As indicated by others there’s a dilmma encountered when trying to compromise between play a) in the part of the stand that holds the drill and runs up and down the spine(?) and b) being able to move the clamp up and down into the workpiece. I’ve tightened it to the point that it’s kind of stiff while lowering and raising the drill but still doable. I hope it’s not damaging to the stand but it’s useless if there’s play in the part that holds the drill. Another major issue is that the clamp does not hold on to my drill hard enough despite tightening as hard as i can (presumably not strong enough to strip the threads). As i lower the drill into the workpiece i have to keep applying force to the drill as well to stop it from working its way up and out of clamp and pointing off vertical. It needs something to hold the drill at the back like the old black & decker drill stands used to have (but they were designed to operate specifically with black & decker drills). Most advice i’ve read is that drill stands aren’t a very good option; i thought that wolfcraft would delibery a.

Poor owners manual so you need to be mechanically minded to work out the finer features of this product. The quoted four day delivery turned out to be four weeks.

Excellent product supplied by excellent reliable company.

Straight forward assembly, no flex in use once set up.

Drill stands seem to be rare these days, and well build ones are hard to find. This is very solid and great to use. It has made all sorts of jobs much quicker and easier. The manual does contain all the information you need for assembly – but you have to stare at it very hard. If you have used drill stands before it is not a problem. Was concerned about ordering issue mentioned by earlier reviewer. I ordered it, got a message saying 5-22 working days for delivery, and it was delivered within 5 working days, so no problem there.

The unit is quite reasonable. The lift is not even over whole length – for me in the upper end, i need to use much more force to rotate and in the lower it is very loose. Other than that – it is solid and accurate vertical. Would recommend as cost effective solution.

Generally it works very well, but there is a little rotational free-play around the vertical shaft which significantly degrades the accuracy of positioning.

Summarized reviewnot perfect, but pretty good. Detailed reviewmost of the parts of this machine seem to be of good quality; two exceptions fail to inspire confidence and these are (1) the depth stop which is merely plastic and feels insubstantial and (2) the depth gauge which, again, is plastic and seems tacky and ill-suited to much use. Assembly instructions were provided but i didn’t find them clear. Fortunately there isn’t much to assemble. Diagrams in the instructions show two screws passing through the main body, to act as clamping screws. I was perplexed by this at first as on the machine i received the screw holes were blind — i. The holes went into the body but not through the body. Close examination revealed that what i had taken to be solid metal was actually just paint in the holes; a sharp tap with a mallet pushed the screws through the paint and all was well. In operation there is some play; the body can rotate very slightly around the post.

I have used this extensively to drill many 90 degree holes. Good height and rotational extension. I have had to replace the locking bolts and nuts as the existing ones were weak and the threads ‘stripped’.

Solid piece of kit, works great with my bosch gsb 16 re drill.

May be not for the purist engineer as there is slight deflection at times. Ideal for my occasional use especially when used with the wolf vice.

  1. The main pillar is held in place with a light alloy wedge. This means there is a lot of free play in the pillar. The pillar needs to be factory welded in place to make it accurate and not wobble.
