Hitachi DV18DSDL/JJ 18V Cordless Li-Ion Combi Drill : Good but not perfect

Nice tool, seems well made and sturdy and am sure it will last a long time. Quite heavy though on the downside. A little disappointed with the power though. I have a 55 torque hitachi (compared to the 92 of this one) already and the power difference drilling pilots and driving wide long screws is indiscernable i find. Overall, was hoping for something with more beef about it, hitachi are good tho.

I purchased this drill locally along with a bundle of tools for a discounted price, however currently this driil is for sale amazon for £217 which is a fantastic price in terms of what you get for your money. It will drill 7ml holes into maisonry blocks with surprising ease for a cordless with plenty of power and without the gearbox sounding stressed. The battery is rated 5 ah and without being specific lasts for ages compared to my last drill which was 3ah. I work as a carpenter and 2 battery’s are needed, however for medium use you could quite easily get away with the one battery, it works well as a screw driver but is a little heavy for constant use. I’ve still got my old hitachi cordless which is 3 years old and still going strong which is lighter andi will keep for screw driving. A 3 year warranty unlimited offer on the batteries, and a lifetime warranty on the drill (what ever this is i don’t really know) and the price in comparison with other drills makes this 18 volt hitachi cordless drill the best currently on the market today. If you could purchase this drill with a single 5ah battery would be the better option, which would be well sufficient for above average use would make this an absolute steal.

Hitachi DV18DSDL/JJ 18V Cordless Li-Ion Combi Drill with 2 x 5Ah Battery

  • Extremely high maximum torque of 92Nm.
  • 2 speed gearbox.
  • Raised body mouldings for extra protection against dust and dirt and a slim line soft-grip handle.

Had all the other makes, gonna stick with this one from now on.

I am a building contractor and what you might call a tool-head. I have the earlier model 86 nm. During the past few years, i have given it some terrible abuse. Mixing mortar in a bucket [many times – drilling huge holes in concrete, even left it out in the rain all night. The 4 speeds are very useful and the best screwing machine i have ever used. Equally as good as makita but a lot cheaper. I have had a few battery-drills in the past and they all wore out, couldn’t take the pace. I have a light 14 volt hitachi too. I also have a small bosch drill, which is handy for roof+gutter work. To conclude: you just can’t beat hitachi drills for the money, powerful and built like brick toilets. ]

Excellent drill for handyman.

Hitachi DV18DSDL/JJ 18V Cordless Li-Ion Combi Drill with 2 x 5Ah Battery : Always use hitachi cordless for years, in. My profession they get a lot of stick, tough and reliable.

Product arrived quickly but adjusting ring on front of tool was stiff to operate and jammed twice seems to have freed up a little and light does not work on front of tool otherwise a powerful tool.

Was looking forward to my new hitachi drill and i wasn’t dissapointed , fantastic drill solid and yet very light , powerful and compact , gentle speed control and a really good tight chuck that holds really small drill bits , an excellent companion to my hitachi impact driver.

Having decided to build my own decking and having never owned a decent drill (my current drill at the time being no exception – think i paid £25 for it on a b&q offer) and with my brother saying that hitachi were more than matching dewalt etc i bought this drill. First the negatives not that there’s many. 1) the quality and the 5amp battery means the drill is quite heavy2) the box is bulky – a smaller carrying case would be a useful second purchase or as a free gift as the charger is bulky and the batteries are large. The good points1) the drill is very well built. The difference to the rubbish id been using is staggering. I’d swear here but my review won’t get published. On the wrong setting the drill would have pushed a decking screw straight through the decking without slowing down. You notice the 90nm of torque the 5amp battery gives you here.

Best on the market for professional use, every day.

Brilliant drill my hubby is very impressed with it.

Excellent value for money and prompt delivery.

Well built although not the smallest. Insane amounts of torque, but the lowest torque setting is a bit high for putting small screws into pine etc. Overall i can”t see me buying another drill for quite some years.

I didn’t need another cordless drill as already have a makita and festool but bought this as a cheaper option (as it comes with 2 batteries and a charger) than buying batteries and charger separately to go with a bare hitachi sds drill. I’m so glad i bought it though as it has bags more torque than my other drills and has come in handy for driving larger screws in flush where my other drills failed. It comes with a great carry case as well. It’s not brushless though but i don’t see that as a problem.

I would like to know the warranty of this product as my chuck has stopped working after just 9 months, i am not impressed.
