Got this gift for hubby for xmas,so no more diy for me. Looks good and also has 2 batteries.
Purchased on a lightening deal and thought it very good value for the price. Have used a couple of times, like the adjustable torque function. Batteries take approx 3 hours to fully charge which is not too shabby either.
Diy friendly tool for a very good price.
Seemed ok at first but developed a strange grinding noise after a few uses – still worked but sounded as though something was definately not right inside. Returned for replacement so will see if the new one lasts any longer, but it does concern me that it might not be very robust. Lack of any indication on the charger to show when the battery is fully recharged is annoying, especially as the instructions contain dire warnings against over-charging. Built-in light is a good feature. Max speed is fine for screws but a bit slow for drilling, so i would only buy this to use mainly as a screwdriver in combination with a bettter quality (with 2 speed ranges ideally) cordless drill for drilling.
- OK as a screwdriver, some drawbacks
- Cheap and cheerful. Typical Draper value.
- Pleased with this.
Draper 20494 14.4-Volt Cordless Rotary Drill with Two Ni-CD Batteries
- Variable speed control
- 16-position torque control
- Forward/reverse facility
- Electric brake
- Built in LED: work piece is always well lit and clearly visible
The two batteries a real plus. No automatic charger switch off?. Just set alarm on phone or clock. Tool could be improved by having the led light come on before the drill/driver rotates allowing a second to line the tool up with whatever you’re drilling or driving but fair price for a solid tool.
It is rare that a draper product disappoints. I’ve bought many of their wares over the years and this maintains my confidence in them. Build quality is better than the diy store specials and the batteries seem to last well. They take about 4-6 hours to charge (typical for a ni-cad) but if you are doing a job that requires more than 2 battery’s capacity within 4 hours you probably are using wrong tool. No case is supplied, but i prefer to have a better tool than a cheaper one with a flimsy plastic case.
Looks good feels good comes with two batteries as described i also purchased the 18v drill which came with two batteries in a carrying case looks like its of a good build quality, time will tell but at these prices i’m not expecting the drills to last forever.
A good product from a reputable manufacturer. Useful to have two batteries supplied with the drill.
The pefect diy cordless drill , can’t fault it yet.
Brill this is second one can not fault.
Great buy – have been using it all weekend – love the 2 batteries.
